Quin Stone
Quin Stone is a Philadelphia-based visual artist, originally from Kentucky. Coming to Philadelphia to attend the acclaimed Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Stone received a degree in painting. Having been exhibited in galleries across Philadelphia and Manhattan, Stone works from his home and imparts his personal findings into his art. In 2017, Stone began to develop a distinct pop art style inspired by the New York and British scenes of the twentieth century. Critical qualities tint the vibrantly colored artworks, evoking Warhol and Weber. A focus on commercial goods brings the attention back to the objects of modern life, the status of perceived luxury, and the pervasive culture of American advertising.
Stone says of the works, “working through a commercial lens, I think, has allowed me to describe this country’s culture in ways that go beyond words. You look at an ad and like it, but you never question who made the ad; you only see what’s in front of you. I try to make my work undoubtedly obvious as to what I am painting.” Blurring the lines between art and advertisement, Stone sheds a new light on American consumer culture.
