 Michon Proctor

Enter: Intergalactic Space Bears. Michon Proctor is a Philadelphia-based artist, designer, and writer, best known for the Intergalactic Space Bears series of teddy bears and prints.

Created by human Martian civilization in an original set of fourteen bears, seven good and seven evil, they escaped to Pluto as the society on Mars crumbled. Free to do as they please, they began creating new Space Bears at the far end of the solar system. Inevitably led to conflict over control of their creations, the seven Virtuous Ideals defeated the seven Nefarious Errors, trapping the dark bears across their domain. Trying to ensure happiness, the good bears cast spells over their subjects, which was eventually discovered and broken by a scientist bear named Vantablack. Seeking to share his knowledge even through extreme means, he went on the run, chased by a group of four bears. A scientist, a magician, an anthropologist, and a military professional formed the Intergalactic Space Bears to track him down, finding along the way that all is not as it seems.

The Adoption Center for The Bears of Pluto has opened a branch at Jedidiah Gallery and Design Store to expand the Intergalactic Space Bear Adoption Service. Proctor’s handmade teddy bears exhibit a deep understanding of textile design, bold color usage, and expressive construction. Proctor also produces Space Bear portraits, psychedelic ink renderings on paper. A further series of digitally-rendered patterns and illustrations show a keen eye for industrial design. We are proud to announce the interstellar arrival of Michon Proctor’s work to Jedidiah Gallery and Design Store.
