Shuling Guo Artist Statement
Early in my career, my initial work about nature led me to explore the painting ideas of plants. I focused on creating magical images with visual impact for the viewer. My desire has been to offer a special way for the viewer to experience my fantastical world and nature. Later on, my dedication to plant forms has expanded to include more elements of nature, such as forest, sky and water. Often, these forms are not literal, but having an abstract quality.
I aspire to develop an unique painting language, using color and shape to express how I feel about nature. This exploration of my relationship with nature continues to bring me creativity, and it is this feeling that I want to share with the viewer in the form of oil painting. My inspirations are from the photos I take when I travel. I am developing my personal color theory to arrange all the images. Color for me, is a method to imitate and understand nature, with which I operate a dreamlike world on the canvas.
In addition to my ongoing work and exhibition, I have brought my love of nature, color and imagination to watercolor illustrations for children picture books, introducing art and inspiring imagination in young people.
